Unstoppable

There’s not much to say about the premise of Unstoppable, the latest film from Tony Scott. A runaway train carrying hazardous cargo (is there any other kind?) is racing towards a highly populated area where there just happens to be a bend in the track. Queue up every cliche in the book.

That’s not entirely fair. With a much bigger budget than most afternoon made for TV movies and a cast that can at least act, there is at least something here worth watching. It’s more the fact that there is nothing you haven’t seen before, or more importantly seen done with more passion. Heck, even Under Siege 2 felt like it had more tension.

At the end of the day, Unstoppable is an enjoyable watch. Tony Scott still hasn’t managed to master a slow-mo shot that doesn’t induce headaches, but the vast majority of the film keeps you entertained and that’s all that could be asked for. Maybe one to rent on DVD.
