Social

Being a developer is a pretty solitary occupation. You can work in an office full of devs, but ultimately you’re writing code in your own little world (unless you’re pair programming, but that’s a discussion for another day).

So I’ve tried to force myself to head out a bit more. HydraHack was good (another one soon hopefully), Silicon Beers (tongiht, w00t) is great to meet a wider range of people. And there’s always the Dev Curry organised by Dan.

There’s always going to be geek talk at any gathering of geeks. It’s nice to see how others are approaching problems, what the new hotness they’re using is like. But there’s also normal chat, just general social interaction. And for the predominantly introverted dev, it’s a nice break :)
