The Losers

This Summer sees the return of the classic action-for-actions-sake genre. The A-Team, The Expendables and Predators all set to be big action, Hollywood effect riddled shoot-em-ups. But first on the block is The Losers, a generic film with a few funny moments and your stereotypical cast.

The story is about as on-rails as you could think; elite team of soldiers, betrayal, chance to get payback, more betrayal, bad guys, more betrayals, big shoot out. The action is good fun and ultimately the plot only serves to move the audience on from one shoot out to the next. The acting is decent with good performances all round, and it’s obvious the cast had a lot of fun.

Perhaps my biggest gripe therefore is with the ending, something I can’t discuss without giving away the whole thing. Let it just be said that they really wanted a sequel and it feels as if they sacrificed a good ending for the sake of extra profit 12 months down the line.

If you like films with guns, explosions and lots of shooting this will please you to no end. If you want something a bit smarter at the moment, go and watch Bad Lieutenant.
