Death at a Funeral

What happens when you take a typically British dark comedy and try and Americanise it? You end up with slapstick, face-palm levels of entertainment and the innate desire to leave the cinema as soon as possible. Death at a Funeral, the 2010 American version, is atrocious.

Let’s begin with the obvious; it’s going to do well because of its large cast. Heck, that’s why we went to see it. Where it falls down is when these characters try to be funny. You’ve got Tracy Morgan who doesn’t seem to have learnt anything about how bad Cop-Out was, you’ve got a naked white guy scrambling across a roof and yes, the requisite body falling out of the coffin.

Seriously, if you’ve seen the trailer you’ve seen all the highlights of the film. Don’t bother with this one. Go and watch the original.
