The Collector

You would have thought Hollywood would have had enough of the “torture porn” movie by now. After 6 Saws (with a 7th on its way in 3D), two Hostel’s and a myriad of other “teenage survival horrors” most people would have found at least one scene that made them look away. But not so for two of the producers from the latter Saw films. Their new film The Collector takes the genre further, but adds little.

The Collector has a simple premise, but one it still doesn’t even add much depth to. A thief sneaks into a home only to find he isn’t the worst thing to break in that night. What follows is a collection of traps and twists that would make even the most die-hard of sadists look away. Honestly, this looks like a demo reel for the kind of elements they couldn’t find an excuse to put into Saw.

The plot continually loops back on itself and no true reason for “The Collector” himself is given. Perhaps the worst aspect is the potential for a sequel these two so desperately want. This is a good movie if you just want to see people hurt. But don’t expect anything dramatic or groundbreaking.
