The Last Airbender 3D

I’m at a loss. Truly. The best part of this film was shown in the trailer, a part that incidentally isn’t in the final film as @Rice pointed out. There really is no redeeming part of this travesty, not the overblown CGI, atrocious dialogue and general lack of any real fighting. M. Night Shyamalan should be required to undergo a thorough psychological evaluation before being let anywhere near a new production.

The Last Airbender (formerly Avatar: The Last Airbender) tells the story of Aang, an Airbender (I kid you not, most are simply referred to as benders) who is to become to the next Avatar. It’s standard stuff with no originality; countries at war, rebellion, romance (bah, blunt romance if that) and a general lack of anything exciting.

In the hands of a capable director, with a proper writing team and experienced fight choreographers, this could have been a spectacular movie. The fact that Night has managed to bastardise something so many people hold dear should be no surprise given the near vertical nosedive his films are now taking.

I could spend more time trawling through its numerous faults, but suffice it to say that Airbender is something to be avoided at all costs.

My rating: 1/10
