Takers

It’s funny, you wait for ages and then two robbery films turn up at once. Last week it was The Town, and this week Takers turns up. Following a similar premise, this film goes for a deeper understanding of how a robbery is formed. All of which is turned upside down as Hollywood decides to pile in more action.

The strongest point of Takers is easily it’s cast with an ensemble accrued from a myriad of sources (Fast & Furious, The Wire, Crash to name just a few). Each have their own personalities, their own lives and their own stories. This is in stark contrast to The Town, which just goes on to highlight how the actual robberies themselves are it’s weakest point.

The jobs are short and not particularly smart, and resultant gun fights are often a confused mess of things exploding as actors leap from one bullet-proof sofa to the next. It’s such a shame as this otherwise enjoyable film could have been so much more.

Overall The Town offers a good character study for once, but it’s intended audience will be disappointed by the action pieces.
