Burke & Hare

Simon Pegg returns with another comedy, this time set in the early 19th century concerning the West Port Murders. It sounds like a rather morose topic, but actually provides a fair few chuckles even if it is not the smartest of films.

Burke and Hare, Pegg and Serkis respectively, are out-of-luck workers in Edinburgh who happen to find a lucrative side-business delivering recently deceased bodies to the local medical teaching schools. Things start to go awry however when they help the infirm towards their end.

Queue your standard comedy with familiar elements throughout. Despite the fresh ground, there really isn’t much new here and at the end you’re left with the feeling of having watched a good movie but for no obvious reason.

Watchable on a quiet night, this isn’t something to write home about.
