London Boulevard

This is very much a film made by an American who had seen one too many British gangster films. It has all of the ingredients, from crime bosses through to quaint Hollywood love interests and all the kookiness in between. But it lacks the British touch.

London Boulevard follows Mitchell, played by Colin Farrell, a newly reformed gangster who’s just looking to get by without returning to a life of crime. Easier said than done.

Along the way he picks up a house and a Hollywood love interest. What follows is what’s expected. It all feels right, but at the same time wrong. This lacks the grit or uniquely British touch directors like Guy Ritchie bring to their flicks. Instead it feels too Americanised, and pays for it by being too predictable.

Worth watching, but you’d be better off just rewatching Snatch or the original Lock Stock.
